What a remarkable life, and there’s still much more adventure peeking over the horizon. Thank you for tagging along; I’m sure we’ll both be surprised by the unexpected detours and delightful diversions we experience along the way.
Never shy about indulging a favorite passion or appeasing my insatiable curiosity, I’ve played the leading man in a dozen different scripts: stockbroker, military officer, entrepreneur, software developer, inventor, analyst, screenwriter, and now… novelist. But my favorite role—the one I was born to play—is Papa. I’m forever grateful for the love and energy my daughter has infused into every aspect of this magnificent journey.
Home is where I lay my head down, but most recently it’s been in the South where moss drips from stately oaks and the smell of fish frying and gumbo bubbling away on the stove is as common as dusty pickup trucks and towering thunderstorms. I miss the wild, open spaces of Montana and the crisp, cold air of Colorado, but this is a land that lends itself to long private walks where a mind is free to wander and revel in the scenes that eventually find their way into stories.
I would say it is, for the most part, a solitary existence, but that wouldn’t do justice to my favorite feline. Jet black and pleasantly plump, Athena fancies herself my Senior Editor, and her antics are a constant source of amusement. Whether she’s keeping a wary eye on me from her stool beside the stove or curled up alongside my laptop, she’s never far away, and I treasure her devotion.
